1. Choosing any condiment over mumbo sauce.
Mumbo sauce is the condiment to get in DC. It’s sweet, sticky and a little tangy but always absolutely delicious.
2. Ordering a normal flavored pop-tart at Ted's Bulletin.
We know it’s tempting to go for a classic but, we have another recommendation. And trust us, peanut butter and bacon tastes much better than it sounds!
3. Getting anything other than fresh seafood.
DC is a prime seafood destination with its close proximity to the Chesapeake! Whether you’re craving crabs, shrimp, oysters, mussels or any other type of seafood, always get it fresh at one of the local restaurants or at the Maine Avenue Fish Market!
4. Getting cupcakes anywhere other than Baked & Wired.
We know that there are bigger, more well known cupcake chains around but they don’t have anything on Baked & Wired in Georgetown. There might be a line when you get there but it moves fast and their original and flavorful cupcakes are os worth the wait.
5. Thinking only great food comes from restaurants.
It's just not true.
6. Going anywhere other than a local coffee shop.
You might not recognize the names or brands but it doesn’t mean it’s not great coffee! DC has incredible local coffee shops that are charming, unique and serve delicious coffee and baked goods!
7. Skipping brunch.
8. Eating a half smoke without cheese and chili.
We’re the first people to admit that half smokes do not look half as delicious as they taste. Don’t worry about heartburn. Just order it with chili and cheese and enjoy!
9. Choosing any other fried chicken over Korean fried chicken.
Korean Fried Chicken is so much better than that other KFC. Korean friend chicken is twice fried for extra crispiness. It is so delicious that you will forget all about Southern fried chicken.
10. Sticking to American food only.
You can find great burgers and fries here but DC just might be the international food capital of the country. Get outside your comfort zone with El Salvadoran, Ethiopian, Korean, Russian or any other international food here!
