Have you ever wanted to live in a tree house? Do you dream about being far above the ground and up in the tops of the trees? Because you can in Rock Creek Park in Washington DC. The famous architect Travis Price who is best known for creating shipping container condos built a 3,500 square-foot house so that it does not touch the ground. It is a fantastical treetop floating house that you can own.
The floating house, as its called, is situated on a cliff at the edge of the park and appears to be hanging off the cliff at first glance. It does not touch the ground. It’s held u by the two steel columns that are bolted to concrete footers underground and anchored by steel rods. It’s almost a suspension bridge.
Squeezed among oak and birch trees that frame the house, a wall of glass stretches across one side of the home, making you feel as if you are actually living right in the forest, as opposed to living in a home in the forest.
You walk through a glass bridge through glass doors to enter the house.
A narrow geometric staircase takes you upstairs to the second and third floor. The fourth floor is known as the "birds nest" and has an outdoor terrace.
The house is filled with sunshine light, has many modern amenities and every room offers stunning views of the forest around it.
There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms in the house but it does not offer much closet space.
Travis Price calls his creation “New York loft meets treehouse” and built it because he says he wanted to “live suspended in those trees” surrounding it. It is a beautiful work of art that has been on and off the market since 2007. 2805 Chesterfield Pl NW is currently listed at 3,899,999.
