When you visit this park near Washington DC, you’re taking leap back in time… a really big leap, into prehistoric time. Ninety minutes outside of the district, in White Post, Virginia, you will find the most unique park near Washington DC and you won’t want to skip out on a trip there.
Dinosaur Land has been entertaining travelers for 50 years on the side of Stonewall Jackson Highway. This roadside attraction has over 50 dinosaurs and much more, all for your entertainment.
The story is that Joe Geraci, the original owner of the park, loved the dinosaurs that were at a putt-putt golf course he visited while in Florida and thought they would be a unique attraction to add to his gift shop in Virginia.
Eventually he realized that the dinosaurs were the main attraction and renamed his place “Dinosaur Land.” The park is still owned and operated by Joe’s family.
But that’s one of the things that makes it a must-visit destination. The park is larger than it first appears and there is plenty to see as you explore it.
In addition to the replicas, there are signs that explain what type of dinosaur it is, where it lived, and what it was like so you can get some education while you’re enjoying the goofiness of the adventure.
Dinosaur Land is an old fashioned American roadside attraction, complete with a huge gift shop that you enter and exit through. With the wide array of quirky gifts, it’s hard to not pick something up.
