One such spot is Rock Creek Park. Touted as “an oasis in the city,” the park encompasses 1,754 acres. The park is a true gem, and that’s especially true in autumn when the park is adorned in shades of yellow, orange, and red. Leaf-peeping opportunities within the park are plentiful and include everything from picnicking and hiking to attending the park’s annual fall events, such as Rock Creek Park Day, which is typically held in late September, and the Heritage Festival, which usually takes place in mid-October.
