This hidden park is the quiet and reserved neighbor of the National Mall. Take a stroll through Constitution Park and you will feel like you’ve discovered DC’s best kept secret.
Constitution Gardens is located between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Don’t let its central location fool you. This park is one of the most peaceful and quietest places in the area.
The 50 acres of Constitution Gardens were originally underneath the Potomac River. A team of US Army Corps of Engineers began dredging project that created the land for the park.
In the early 1900s, the land was home to temporary office buildings. It was until 1971, when President Nixon ordered the buildings be removed and the Constitution Gardens were created.
The Memorial to the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence is located in the park. You can visit the memorial by walking across a wooden boardwalk to a small island in the lake.
Today the park is an excellent place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It has the feel of a community park but with the location of national memorial.
Constitution Gardens is the perfect place to walk, bike, jog and enjoy the peaceful nature of the area. It gives visitors a nice break from the noise and stress of city life.
