You have to love small towns. There is something so sweet and genuine about them. While DC is definitely not a small town, we happen to be in close proximity to many charming small towns . If you’re looking for a idyllic small town that’s perfect for the holidays, we found one for you! Warrenton, Virginia is the best winter town near DC.
Warrenton, Virginia is a small town about an hour outside of DC in Northern Virginia. It's charming all year round but it nothing short of magical in the Christmas season.
The holidays really kick off in Warrenton at their Christmas Parade at the beginning of December and the festivities continue from there.
All of Main Street is decked out in lights, garlands and holiday decor.
If you stroll down Main Street on a December weekend, you'll be treated to carolers, live music and local food vendors.
They even have Clydesdale carriage rides around the downtown area.
And, of course, be on the look out for the Warrenton Santa! You might see him out and about downtown.
But if you want to tell him your list, you have to visit him at Gumdrop Square and Santa's Secret Shop. The courthouse building in downtown Warrenton is turned into Gumdrop Square every year, an old time holiday town!
At Gumdrop Square, you can take photos with Santa, purchase small gifts that you have gift wrapped right there by Santa's elves!
Outside of Gumdrop Square, the small shops and merchants decorate their windows in full Christmas displays, continuing the magic all over Main Street.
Warrenton is a joy to visit in the Christmas season and you shouldn't miss it!
