With spring upon us, you might start craving some warmer weather treats. Nothing hits the spot quite like a homemade ice cream on a warm DC day. You have plenty of options for ice cream shops around DC but if you want the creamiest, most delicious homemade ice cream in the district then you need to head to Larry’s Homemade Ice Cream. This tiny Dupont circle shop serves the best ice cream in the city.
Larry’s has been open since 1985. It’s hidden in a basement space just north of Dupont Circle but it’s worth searching for!
Larry’s is opened by a husband and wife team. Larry makes all the ice cream.
The ice cream at Larry’s is 100% natural and they use local premium ingredients from around DC and Alexandria.
There are 40 different ice cream flavors available at Larry’s. You can find everything from traditional vanilla and chocolate to local favorites like cinnamon oatmeal cookie dough, salted caramel, red velvet and cardamom almond.
You will want to keep returning just to try all the flavors! Get in a cone or cup, mix and match your scoops and you can add toppings if you choose.
Larry’s has more than just cupcakes, though. They also sell baklava, cookies, brownies, and homemade cupcakes baked by Larry’s wife.
Enjoy your cupcake at the shop or buy a few. You can even order in advance for your next party.
You can also order special order ice cream cakes for any special occasions.
Larry’s is a small and no frills shop. There is not a ton of space inside and there’s sometimes a line outside the door in the summertime but it is so worth a stop for delicious high quality ice cream.
Larry’s is located at 1633 Connecticut Ave NW. They are open at noon every day and on the weekends they stay open until 12am.
