The nice thing about DC is that you don’t have to go too far to get out of the city and into nature. There are tons of places to hike and explore in and around the city and you’re never far from a perfect camping weekend. You have your choice of campgrounds with a few hours of DC but we found what might be the most beautiful campground near DC at Granite Hill Camping Resort.
Granite Hill is 80 miles outside of DC in Gettysburg. It’s about an hour and a half drive from the city.
Granite Hill is set on a gorgeous 150-acre Civil War era farm. Among the rolling hills and fantastic woods, you will find plenty of fun camping activities.
At Granite Hill, you have choice of camping accommodations. There are 300 campsites where visitors can pitch tents. If you prefer something a little more upscale, there are also two-room cabins that sleep six people.
There is also plenty of see outside of Granite Hill, at historic Gettysburg. Explore the grounds of Gettysburg National Military Park a few miles east of the park.
