When people focus on restaurants in Connecticut, a lot of the attention tends to go towards places on the shore. New Haven, after all, is the birthplace of Connecticut-style apizza. Many of our beach towns have destination restaurants that people travel for miles to reach. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t delicious eateries tucked away elsewhere, like in the beautiful Litchfield Hills. Today we’re featuring a spot that seems tailor made for indecisive diners who struggle to decide where to eat. Wood’s Pit BBQ and Mexican Cafe specializes in barbecue and Mexican cuisine, and it’s hidden away in the little borough of Bantam.
Bantam is a tiny little area that you'd miss if you blinked while passing. It's only about one square mile in area, with less than 1,000 people living in it.
Great things can come in small packages, though. Bantam is home to this tasty restaurant that manages to specialize in both barbecue and Mexican food and make both wonderfully.
It may seem surprising to have such seemingly diverse dishes on the menu, but it comes naturally to the restaurant's owner.
A few years later, Woodie traveled south to learn to make authentic pit barbecue. He studied the techniques of master chefs in Georgia and the Carolinas, then brought his secrets back up to the Nutmeg State.
The intriguing combination of dishes (with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options available, plus seafood and sandwiches!) makes this the ideal spot for the adventurous diner.
