Connecticut is beautiful any time of the year. After marveling at the enchantment of winter’s artistry, we look forward to the colorful bloom of springtime. The majestic beauty of Wickham Park’s gardens are a sight you will want to bring your camera for. No filter needed!
1. Cabin Garden
Located at the highest point of Wickham Park, the Cabin Garden and amphitheater offer spectacular views of Hartford. The cabins are available to rent for weddings and special events.
2. English Garden
The newest of the gardens covers less than 2 acres, but is divided into three garden rooms you will want to explore: the Maze, the Great Lawn, and the Knot Garden.
3. Irish Garden
Opened in the summer of 2016, the Irish garden is surrounded by a 128 foot stone wall and contains a diverse selection of perennials, shrubbery, and historical Irish statues.
4. Italian Shrine Garden
Originally created by Clarence and Edith Wickham as a sacred area for their workers to worship, this shrine remains standing as a beautiful architectural structure with statues of St. Theresa and St. Francis. The beautiful plants in this garden make this an especially peaceful garden to pause for a moment of serenity.
5. Lotus Garden
Located in the park's center, the Lotus Garden's pagoda overlooks a fountain and pond.
6. Oriental Garden
Located on eight acres, the Oriental Garden is the oldest and largest garden in Wickham Park. With a large variety or oriental statues throughout the garden, the most well known are the Teahouse, the fu-dogs, and the moon bridge arch.
7. Scottish Garden
The half acre garden located on the north side of the English Garden combines Scottish history and mythology throughout the garden.
8. Wetlands Garden
The Wetlands Garden opened in 2005 with funding from the Connecticut Department of Transportation. This natural garden has trails over six-tenths of a mile and thousands of wetland plants.
Wickham Park reopens for the season from April through late October. Hours are 11 am to Sunset. Keep up to date with upcoming events at the Wickham Park website .
