Looking for a historic site in Connecticut that’s truly unique? Then you’ll definitely want to check this place out! If nature is art, then doesn’t it make sense for the exploration of Connecticut’s natural beauty to combine with a collection of impressionist painters? Don’t answer that. This park will do it for you!
Located in Wilton, this is the only Connecticut site in the National Park Service devoted to the visual arts. With so many scenic paths, this place is about recreating them just as much as it's about experiencing them.
The 60 acres this site is made of were originally purchased for ten dollars and a painting. Hard to imagine anyone would be willing to part with this hilly countryside, but I'm glad they did, because it became a public site for all to enjoy.

Stay close to the farm or adventure out to the on-site hiking trail. There are scenes you don't want to miss in every direction, so if you have a love for photography I would highly recommend bringing a camera.

That's because the farm used to be the home of several impressionist painters. The site is named for J. Alden Weir, but other notable artists such as John Singer Sargent and John Twachtman have stayed here too.

Maybe they will do the same for you! Visitors can create their own works on site through the Take Part In Art program, giving you the opportunity to put your favorite part of the site on to a canvas. What an incredible keepsake!
You'll notice the stone wall on the grounds and the little stone garden shed. But you'll also notice the plethora of trees and flowers.
This place is just far enough away from town to make you feel like you're in paradise, but you can get back to a bustling nightlife and riverfront dining options pretty easily. It's a perfect spot for old friends to catch up or try something new together.
With a sunset view like this, you could really wow your partner! There is no place in the world like this historic site in Connecticut. So definitely add it to your summer bucket list, because you don't want to miss out on a relaxing adventure in art.
