The Nutmeg State has one of the highest populations of people with Italian ancestry in America. It’s no wonder we’ve got so many great Italian restaurants in Connecticut! New Haven is famous for their Connecticut-style pizza (“apizza”), some of which has been named the best pizza in America. Tucked away about half an hour north in Middletown is Vero Cucino. This tasty spot started out as a restaurant focusing on authentic Neapolitan pizza. It has since expanded to include other Italian dishes. The restaurant’s goal is to use fresh ingredients to make authentic Italian fare.
Most of the famous pizza restaurants in Connecticut tend to be in New Haven, the birthplace of apizza. But that doesn't mean there aren't great Italian restaurants in Connecticut's other cities.
The restaurant's specialty is Neapolitan style pizza. This variety of pizza uses a special artisan technique. Ingredients must be imported from Italy for pizza to be made in the true Naples style.
The end result is certainly worth the preparation difficulty! Vero Cucino offers specialty pie varieties like Margerhita and white clam (when available), but you can also choose your own toppings.
Pizzas can be purchased in a variety of sizes, including personal pan 10-inch versions. If you're looking to shake it up a bit, go for an 18-inch calzone or even a stuffed bread! Individual slices are available on weekdays.
If you're not feeling up to pizza, Vero Cucino's expansive menu has plenty of other options, including a kid's menu and vegetarian selections.
We may not all have the resources to travel to Italy at the drop of a hat, but this Italian restaurant in Connecticut will have you feeling like you just touched down in Naples!
