We see new restaurants popping up around Connecticut every month but there’s something to be said for the eateries that are oldies but goodies. You can enjoy the classic fare at these nostalgic spots that bring back the best of decades past. One of our favorites is a virtually unchanged drive-in that’s been warming hearts and filling bellys since 1955.
Located in Hamden, the Glenwood Drive-In got its humble start in 1955. The family-owned business has survived six decades which is quite an accomplishment.
It has expanded a bit by increasing the size of its building and its burgers but many items have remained the same through the years. One thing that hasn't changed is the opportunity to enjoy classic drive-in food all year-round.
Hot Dogs are blistered on the grill to the perfect cook. Enjoy them plain or load them with chili, cheese, or both!
Burgers are fresh certified angus patties grilled just the way you like them. The Big Boy Burger is a local favorite with two patties and plenty of melted cheese.
The menu is uncomplicated but everything is done right. You'll also find lobster rolls, fried seafood, grilled cheese, and other simple but tasty dishes.
One thing you won't want to skip is a stack of onion rings. They are hand-cut, lightly battered, and cooked right on the spot. When you're longing for the past, head to Glenwood Drive-In where you'll enjoy an All-American meal in one of Connecticut's legendary eateries.
Glenwood Drive-In serves its delicious menu from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily. You can find them at 2538 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518. Learn more about this unchanged drive-in by visiting their
