Orange may be the tried-and-true color for Halloween but teal is starting to make a strong appearance too. You might think it’s just a trendy way to add a splash of color to a traditional Halloween display but it’s really a colorful solution to a big trick-or-treating problem.
Next week children will put on their costumes and hit the pavement in a quest to fill bags with sugary sweets. This coveted candy hunt is the highlight of every kid's October...unless they have a food allergy.
Imagine being a child who had to throw away most of their Halloween bounty because of an allergy to nuts, milk, or eggs. The teal pumpkin project is a nationwide movement by the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) to make trick-or-treating fun and safe for all kids.
Get involved by offering some non-food treats for kids with severe food allergies. You can still pass out candy, just keep the other treats in a separate bowl.
Next, paint a pumpkin teal and display it on your porch letting trick-or-treaters know you're part of the project. You can even add your house to the FARE online interactive map to let others know you are participating.
Will you be jumping on the bandwagon to make Halloween more fun for all kids? If you can't paint or purchase a teal pumpkin, download a participation sign for free.
