East Rock rises 350 feet over the Mill River and overlooks the city of New Haven. It is located within the boundaries of the 427-acre park located both in the Elm City and Hamden.
Also waiting at the top of East Rock is the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument honoring New Haven veterans who died in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican American War, and Civil War.
East Rock Park is open to hikers and walkers all year long. The road for cars is open from April 1 through November 1, 8 a.m. to sunset. From November 2 through March 3, the road is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weather permitting.
