When the weather gets cold in the Nutmeg State, it’s no reason to stop exploring! There are so many great day trips and weekend trips to take during winter in Connecticut. One of our favorites is the town of Canton. This just so happens to be one of the snowiest towns in Connecticut, and there’s plenty to see and do here, even in the winter. The town of Canton contains several villages, including the historic Collinsville, once one of the leading axe manufacturing towns in the world. The area is so much fun to explore, whether you’re looking for shopping, natural destinations, or want to learn about the region’s history. So pack a bag with your go-to winter travel essentials and get ready for a fun adventure!
It's no secret that we get a good bit of snow in Connecticut, but even so, we're still fairly middle-of-the-road as far as the entire country is concerned. Our neighbors to the north like Maine and Vermont get considerably more than us, as do several famously snowy Midwestern states like Michigan and Wisconsin.
But if you're looking for snow in the Nutmeg State, one great place to find it is Canton. Depending on the year, Canton typically gets about 45-60 inches of snow, which is more than many other areas of the state.
