The Shepaug Dam is home to a wonderful eagle observation area that's perfect for a family adventure.
Since it opened in 1985, around 140,000 people have visited The Shepaug Dam observation area. Join in the fun and marvel at Connecticut's gorgeous wildlife.
Because the hydroelectric station prevents water from freezing, eagles can easily catch fish below the dam. On a busy day, it's not uncommon to see them searching for food.

Spotting scopes are provided so visitors can get a great view of the birds flying overhead.
These exciting events allow visitors to get up close and personal with fascinating animals. You'll love learning all about Connecticut's incredible wildlife. Past presenters have included The Connecticut Audubon Society, Christine Critters, and Horizon Wings.
Thanks to conservation efforts, bald eagles are on the rise again.
Due to human interference and pesticide use, bald eagles suffered a great loss. However, thanks to legal action and DDT bans, these creatures are beginning to make a recovery.
Visiting this wonderful observation area is one adventure you'll never forget.
The eagle viewing season begins during the last weekend of December and lasts until the middle of March. The observation area is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Entrance is free, but reservations are required.
