One of the most important needs in the world is the need for safety. It doesn’t matter what stage in life you are currently in, you must be able to have that peace of mind and sense of security throughout your day. Safewise recently came out with its annual list for the top 20 safest cities in Connecticut. This year there were a few positive changes to the state’s statistics.
The cities shown on this year's Safewise list for 2021 Safest Cities to Live In Connecticut had many positive improvements. The cities listed on this year's top ten list are (#1 pictured) Newtown, Ridgefield, Simsbury, Westport, Wallingford, Cheshire, Greenwich, New Milford, Shelton, and Guilford.
This year, Newtown and Ridgefield changed rankings as the number of property crimes in Newtown decreased. Overall, Newtown had one robbery and five crimes of aggravated assault.
The amount of violent crime went down throughout Connecticut. Number 2, Ridgefield only had one violent incident and Number 3 Simsbury reported three violent crimes in the last year.
The largest improvement in crime rate was in the town of Wallingford. The town moved up eight places from number 13 to the fifth safest town in Connecticut.
In a survey conducted among Connecticut residents, 52 percent said they have some form of property protection. Of the 52 percent, 27 percent use a security system. Of those surveyed, most were mainly concerned about the possibility of package theft and least concerned about the possibility of gun violence.
The overall crime rate in Connecticut is 14.3 incidents per 1000 people. This means that the state of Connecticut is far below the national average for the crimes of burglary, car theft, larceny, and petty theft.
