After a summer hiatus, Max Downtown reopened this week. The restaurant spent most of the summer undergoing extensive renovations. During the last few weeks of the renovation, the owner decided to make a major design change after finding inspiration on a family trip to Ireland. The results are incredible. See for yourself!
When Max Downtown closed for the summer on July 2nd, the plan was to revamp every surface in the space, including walls, booths, chandeliers, furniture, and artwork.
A newly-designed awning welcomes diners into the redesigned space. The carpeted floors in the dining room have been replaced by hardwood, the starched white tablecloths have given way to chic bare-clothed tables, and the booths are decked out in a mid-century design.
The iconic painting that once drew every eye in the dining room was taken down. Now, the dining rooms are covered with groupings of framed photographs and artwork showcasing pop culture icons and famous faces.
The color blue dominates the space, in shades ranging from classic navy to bright royal blue to slate.
Weeks before the restaurant was set to reopen, the owner found inspiration in a bar in Ireland. After taking in the bar's contemporary decor, he decided to add a backlit whisky wall with walnut shelves.
These changes will help Max Downtown appeal to a new generation of diners.
The food is as amazing as ever, and of course, the menu has gotten a bit of an overhaul just like the rest of the space. It's not a full-on sharing menu, but patrons should expect more shareable plates.
Trendy sharing plates aside, if you're looking for a steak, this is still the go-to place in Hartford. Some things will never change!
How soon will you check out the newly-renovated Hartford landmark? Are you excited to see the new decor in person?
