During the winter of 1778 and 1779, Major General Israel Putnam and 3,000 men made their home on these grounds. Throughout these arduous months, troops kept watch on the storehouses in Danbury and protected the Long Island Sound. Many of the men living here suffered at Valley Forge just the winter before!
