It all began in the town of Milford back in the 1920s.
Local Milford history says it was Harry Perry who owned Perry’s Meat/Fish Market who first introduced the world to the lobster roll when a regular customer came in asking for a quick lobster sandwich. In a matter of minutes, warm bits of lobster nestled on a soft french roll and the legend of the lobster roll was born.
Although many variations of the lobster roll were made in Connecticut, original credit was always given to Perry's Restaurant. For decades, a sign in the window declared the restaurant (then located at Boston Post Rd at Meadows End Rd) as "Home of the Lobster Roll."
The big debate since is whether a lobster roll tastes better warm and buttery or cold with mayo, scallions or celery, and tarragon. While that won't be explored right now, we will point out some of the best places in Connecticut to get a delicious lobster roll, no matter what your preference.
