In today’s fast-paced world, taking a look back at the history of Connecticut can be both comforting and fascinating. It’s so interesting to see how much things have changed, but in some ways remained the same. We’ve dug through the archives and found eight historical photos of Connecticut that are quite interesting; take a look:
This shot of Yale's famous mascot is from around 1889. This is Handsome Dan I, who was owned by a student and the first U.S. college mascot. He won first prize in the Westminster Dog Show and was famous for his trick of barking aggressively when told to "speak to Harvard." The school is now up to Handsome Dan XIX, but Handsome Dan I lives on - you can see his taxidermied body at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium lobby on campus.
Some things never change! Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven looks much the same today as it did then.

Hartford was not nearly as developed in 1900, but Bushnell Park is still there today and still a great place to relax within the city.

This shot is so interesting because it shows both a car and a carriage - it's wild to think about both being on the roads at the same time! This building was torn down at some point in the 1920s and The Hartford now has a new name and a new building.
