7 Gorgeous Connecticut Waterfalls Hiding In Plain Sight With No Hiking Required

Oftentimes, it seems like if you want to see waterfalls in Connecticut, you have to take a lengthy hike that’s quite difficult to reach them. Sure, the payoff is grand, but sometimes you want something a little less strenuous. If you’re in the mood to see waterfall cascades but want something more along the lines of “drive to a parking lot and look off an observation deck” rather than “take a 5-mile trek through the forest,” then these easy-access waterfalls in Connecticut are for you:

Devil's Hopyard State Park, 366 Hopyard Rd, East Haddam, CT 06423, USA

This one does take just a little bit of a hike, but it's not long! The hike to Chapman Falls is short and sweet, and the 60-foot ledge fall is easily visible. According to Puritan folklore, the devil himself played fiddle atop Chapman Falls.

It's really no wonder that Kent Falls State Park is often called one of the most beautiful places in Connecticut. The falls go down 250 feet in a series of gorgeous cascades. You can get a great view from the nearby parking lot, but if you'd like a different vantage point, there are plenty of nearby trails to explore.

Great Falls is one of the most powerful waterfalls in New England, though it's important to know the flow level varies throughout the year depending on the weather. This one can be a little tough to find, but if you drive down Dublin Road, you can see it right from the road. There's also a small parking lot near an observation deck on Housatonic River Road. This one is most powerful in the springtime after heavy rains.

Burr Falls are visible from the eastern side of the vastly underrated Burr Pond State Park in Torrington. The 45-foot falls are easily visible from the roadside on Burr Mountain Road. There are several nearby smaller falls as well.

The 40-foot Yantic Falls is easy to get great views of thanks to the old train bridge directly above the falls and another nearby pedestrian bridge. The falls are quite scenic, set within a shallow gorge. You may also hear this referred to as Indian Leap Falls.

Aspetuck Falls is right in the middle of an adorable little artsy town that's perched practically right atop the 20-foot falls. You can easily view them from the roadside, and there's also an observation deck that's reachable after a short hike.

The Eli Whitney Museum backs right up to East Rock Park. The dam on Lake Whitney forms a massively wide waterfall that's easily visible without even taking any bit of a hike!
