When deciding to dine out in Connecticut, there’s no doubt you can find many restaurants serving up tasty eats. There are also plenty of places that have a unique atmosphere. But if you’re looking for both — Zip’s Diner never disappoints. It has a retro vibe straight out of the 50s and the decade’s old lunch car diner can always be counted on for their delicious food.
Since 1954, Zip's Diner has been tempting hungry customers into its dining car with its neon "EAT" sign and the promise of a tasty meal. The original diner was established in 1946 in Danielson but was moved to its current location in Dayville in the 1950s.
Zip's retains its old-school charm with counter seating and booths covered in vinyl and edged in chrome. While the diner has seen a handful of celebrities in its lifetime, it's the locals who fill the seats again and again.
Famous patrons of Zip's Diner include Liberace, Joe DiMaggio, Alec Baldwin, and Renee Zellweger. Famous Cartoonist, Bill Griffith has enjoyed a meal at Zip's and even featured the eatery in his comic strip, "Zippy".
During prime mealtimes, you may arrive to a full house. But the friendly waitstaff and quick kitchen ensure that the wait is never too long for a table.
Snag a seat in a booth and you'll be treated to the retro tunes of an old-fashioned tabletop jukebox. All of the preserved decor inside this lunch car diner makes it such a fun place to eat!
While the atmosphere is a pure blast from the past, the fare is modern day comfort food that's impossible to resist. Breakfast lovers rejoice, you can enjoy your favorites all day long at Zip's.
Dive into a plate of eggs, hash browns, and bacon. The portions are huge and will leave even the biggest appetites satisfied.
Or choose to treat yourself the legendary chicken fried steak smothered in homemade gravy. And if prefer something a little sweeter, try the scrumptious oversized pancakes or strawberry shortcake.
You'll also find plenty of grilled sandwiches, pot roast, meatloaf, and other classics. With most items being under $10, you can afford to bring the whole family!
So are you ready to EAT? Zip's Diner is open morning, noon, and night from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily.
