What do you know about Connecticut? For most people, with the exception of those from the New England area, the answer to that question is almost nothing. We’re a pretty forgotten state, and when we are remembered, it’s not always for the reasons we want to be. So consider this a PSA: Connecticut is cool if you just give it a chance. Leave the rumors and stereotypes behind. Here’s an easy list of what we really want you to know about Connecticut:
Our state might be small, but we have a lot of loyal residents who are tired of being forgotten. We may not be as well known as the much bigger states we have to compete with, but we have a great history and lots of attractions.
We don't have to go to New York City to enjoy award winning restaurants or a thriving night scene. Our cities are overflowing with options, except they're a whole lot cozier.
And out farmers do it all! We have farms and vineyards, dedicated to everything from cheese to maple syrup. And in the summer, the fresh ice cream is to die for.
As one of the original colonies, we take pride in the historical details that remain in our small towns and villages. If you want to experience quaint and easy living, you definitely don't want to overlook our little state.
Whether you're trying the New Haven style apizza or venturing further east, our pizza beats out all the chains and all the states too. Once you've had our pizza, it will be hard to eat it anywhere else.
A recent study found that Connecticut ranks pretty low for patriotism, but I assure you that we'd rank pretty high for holiday spirit. Everything lights up and seasonal stores open to reveal incredible displays.
8. The ghosts won't bother you if you don't bother them.
The most popular search phrase about Connecticut is "why is it so haunted?" Most of the stories aren't true and if you don't seek out the abandoned buildings you won't have anything to worry about. So don't be dramatic about it. Every old state has ghosts.
See? It comes from this pie company, and the local kids who would toss the empty pie tins around. We don't care what anyone else tells you, this little piece of history has already been claimed and it's ours.
Just because we don't have professional teams, that doesn't mean we hate sports. We love our college teams, ESPN is headquartered here and we participate in a number of rivalries.
The monstrosity that is cold lobster salad smeared across bread will never happen here. And it shouldn't either. Warm butter drizzled lobster pieces is the only way to go.
Our beaches may fall on the Long Island Sound, but that just means you don't have to worry about huge waves or shark attacks. Kids love discovering sea life and adults appreciate the calm water views.
Every village, town, and city is different. Despite notions of wealth and the fact that the Stepford Wives movies were filmed here, it's a fun, family friendly state to live in. And the women are definitely not robots.
