Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). The Railroad Museum of New England is one of the region's most underrated attractions. This educational spot offers up plenty of informative displays about the lengthy history of trains in Connecticut, plus you can enjoy train rides throughout the year.
Railroad Museum of New England, 242 E Main St, Thomaston, CT 06787, USA
One of the most magical times to visit the museum is in the winter, when you'll find several holiday-themed offerings on the schedule. The 80-minute Santa Express is a daytime train that's perfect for the whole family.
The train is decorated inside and out for the trip, and Santa and Mrs. Claus are even aboard! You'll be serenaded by a choir of caroling elves, and kids will receive a gift.
This is one of our favorite places to celebrate the holidays in Connecticut, thanks in large part to the Festival of Silver Lights. The beautiful display lights up Hubbard Park.
Please note that tickets generally sell out for the Santa Express rides, so make sure to purchase them early if you’re interested! You can get more information and purchase tickets on the Railroad Museum of New England’s website or Facebook page.
