Located in Avon, Connecticut, US Horse Welfare and Rescue has served as a haven since 2016 for horses who would otherwise be sent to slaughter.
Founder Susan Mitchell has made it her mission to be an advocate for these intelligent and beautiful creatures who don't have a voice of their own. The mission of US Horse Welfare and Rescue is to support and educate equine owners, while also promoting the human spirit through programs through interactive programs for both horses and humans.
Education, volunteer, and therapy programs allow people to learn more about equine care as they make connections, develop long term friendships, and develop healthy habits through the physical care of the rescue horses
Barn Buddies is a program for school age children which allows them to interact with ponies, learn about daily farm activities through interaction, and have fun through games and crafts as they enjoy plenty of fresh air and outdoor time.
Teens to the Rescue gives teenagers the opportunity to interact and care for the rescue horses, while helping them develop confidence and leadership skills.
