The old Seaside Sanatorium and Griswold Inn are only about half a hour away from each other. These two spots share amazing history, and it’s not hard to imagine that spirits could linger there. Seaside Sanatorium opened up in 1930. It's in Waterford, not far from the beach.

The hospital operated under various names before closing in 1996, and, at different times, treated those with mental disabilities, the elderly, and medical patients.

The property spans 36 acres. Today, vsitors are allowed to approach the buildings, but going inside is off-limits.
The tranquil beachfront setting is so peaceful. However, like many hospitals of the time period, terrible rumors swirl around patient mistreatment that occurred here.
It's really no wonder that it's said to be a site heavy with paranormal activity. Visitors have reported hearing unexplained noises and even seeing floating orbs of light.
About a half-hour's drive away, you'll find the Griswold Inn, the oldest bar in Connecticut and one of the oldest bars in the country. It opened up in 1776 and has an absolutely fascinating history.

You can enjoy delicious meals here, with plenty of upscale choices available in the main restaurant. The Griswold Inn Taproom has more casual fare, like burgers and fish and chips.
This place has a remarkable history and recent renovations have maintained the historic integrity of the building. It's amazing to think about how many people have walked through the doors here.
