One of the most fun scavenger hunts of the summer is collecting beautiful abandoned seashells. Few things make you feel like a kid more than discovering pretty shells. It’s also great for both your mental and physical well-being as you get out into nature and spend some time enjoying the sunshine, fresh air, and getting some exercise.
One thing we all know is that many of the public beaches can get a little crowded during the summer.
When you want to get out to the beach, enjoy a quiet day, and avoid the crowds, one of the best hidden gem beaches is located at Silver Sand State Park in Milford.
As you walk along the beach you will find hundreds of seashells. Make sure you wear shoes, so you don't cut up your feet on any broken shells.
Otherwise, you'll find a clean beach and more gorgeous shells than you can imagine.
Even if you're not a bird watcher, the birds you'll see on the beach at Silver Sands may turn you into one. You'll enjoy coming across the sight of the many birds who live and thrive at Silver Sands.
During the summer months, Charles Island, located on the other side of the sandbar is closed as the local birds have nested on the island.
The sandbar that sits between Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island is a favorite area to explore during low tide.
Twice a day the sandbar is covered with water and is very dangerous.
With a half mile of beautiful sands to explore, a long boardwalk, and the most stupendous views of the sun from the Connecticut shoreline, you will love the magic of visiting the beach at Silver Sands Park.
