Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford is a beautiful location on the Long Island Sound. Harkness Mansion, an impressive 42 room renaissance revival, is also located on the grounds. So forget about expensive travel plans! Walking the grounds of this park will make you feel like you’re on a European excursion.
The 230-acre park and botanical garden was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The details continue across this 1907 mansion, letting you discover intricate arches, pathways, and wall designs as you peacefully meander through the property.
You can pause from exploring on this old, wooden bench and soak up the sun and beach breeze. You'll feel like you're on the coast of France, but you'll be right at home in Connecticut!
In fact, this incredible spot is so reminiscent of European architecture and design that even the car show British by the Sea was hosted here! Check out the video below for a view of the grounds and some pretty sweet vehicles of the past.
