The original fort was constructed in 1777, but the one you'll see standing tall today was built between 1839 and 1852.

This impressive structure has lived many lives. The first fort was used to protect the New London harbor from British attacks. During World War II, Fort Trumbull was home to the Coast Guard and the U. S. Maritime Service Officer Candidate School.
But don't just admire it from the outside! The fort is open for visitors from late May until Labor Day.

The park grounds are open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset. The Visitor Center museum is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The state park has accessible walkways and exhibit centers.
