Have you ever heard of a cat cafe? The concept started in Japan. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a little area where drinks and snacks are sold and you get the opportunity to play with cats. We have a couple of cat cafes in Connecticut, and one that just recently opened up is All the Single Kitties in Old Saybrook. This spot is perfect for cat lovers everywhere, especially if you’re not currently in a position to have pets yourself. You can swing by, pay a small fee, hang out with cats for a while, and support a great cause all at the same time!
All the Single Kitties just opened up in November 2022 and has already become quite popular, finding homes for dozens of cats so far.
The facility is not allowed to prepare drinks or food due to health code regulations, but you can purchase items from a selection of prepackaged food and drink. You can also bring your own, as long as all beverages are non-alcoholic.
The way that the cafe works is you reserve a time period in advance, pay a small fee that helps to support the care of the cats. Show up at your appointment time and you get 50 minutes of time in the cat lounge!
Living at the cafe is great for them, as it's easier to tell a cat's personality in a more home-like environment like this. Cats don't always show well in traditional shelter settings due to the stress of being in cramped quarters.
