The track site is one of the largest in North America. It was discovered in 1966, when a bulldozer operator noticed the tracks during the construction of an office building. In 1968, the park was dedicated and the trackway was preserved as a National Landmark.

The arboretum that surrounds the museum was established to support plants and flora that have direct links to plants that lived here when dinosaurs walked the Earth. There are more than 200 species here.
