She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). The Nutmeg State is about as far from Mexico as you can be without leaving the United States, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great Mexican restaurants in Connecticut. One of our favorites is Cuckoo’s Nest in Old Saybrook. It’s got a delightfully eclectic menu that not only features traditional Mexican goodies, but also has some incredible Cajun dishes. The colorful decor adds to the atmosphere, making this a wonderful option for lunch or dinner. The menu is just off-the-wall enough to be unique without being so exotic that it’s off-putting.
The Cuckoo's Nest has been delighting Old Saybrook residents and visitors alike for over four decades. They've got a great variety of dishes to please any palate, and the atmosphere is so fun.
The interior is just as charming, with decor that is as homey and eclectic as the menu itself. The two-story dining room gives you lots of room to spread out even when it's busy.
There are some really unique menu items here! We love the pasta Jambalaya. It's not something you'd expect to find at a primarily Mexican restaurant, but the creole tomato sauce is excellent.
