Soul food is typically most closely associated with the Southern United States. There’s certainly plenty of delicious cuisine in New England, but it’s usually more along the lines of hot lobster rolls or fried clams, not collard greens and fried chicken. You don’t have to head past the Mason-Dixon line to get a taste of hearty soul food, though. We’ve got plenty of options for comfort food in Connecticut, and one of the tastiest is Sandra’s Next Generation in New Haven. This place will make you feel like you were magically transported down to South Carolina or Georgia – the authentic soul food is so delicious and comforting!
Sandra's Next Generation may not look like much from the outside, but this place is so tasty! This is one of the more popular soul food restaurants in Connecticut thanks to its amazing main dishes, sides, and desserts.
The small restaurant is pretty popular, so you may have to wait a little bit for food, but trust us, it's definitely worth the wait. Since the items are made fresh, it's understandable that you might have a few minutes' wait while the food is prepared.
However, you really can't go wrong with anything here. There are several different meats available, including BBQ, seafood, and fried or baked chicken.
Soul food sides are always incredible and there's no shortage to choose from at Sandra's Next Generation. Macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens, fried okra, cabbage: the list goes on and on!
