The Nutmeg State is full of beautiful scenery. From our shoreline to our state parks there is no shortage of incredible views. But if you want to feel like you are on top of the world, visit these Connecticut towers for sweeping panoramic views of not only our own land but as far as New York and New Hampshire. Bring your camera, these lookouts are picture perfect.
You can reach Castle Craig by driving a slow winding road up to the top of Hubbard Park. The 32-foot stone tower is quite beautiful and on clear days you can see out to the Long Island Sound. You can visit this tower at 999 W Main St., Meriden, CT 06451.
You'll have to take a hike to enjoy the scenery from the top of the Sleeping Giant State Park Observation Tower. The stone tower rises 30 feet in the air and by peering out the arched windows you will be treated to fantastic views of central Connecticut. The park and its tower are located at 200 Mt Carmel Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
Cunningham Tower is a stone tower that reaches a height of 30 feet. It is located in the Mohawk State Forest and will require some walking to reach. The scenery seems to stretch on for miles and miles from this vantage point. The short trail to Cunningham Tower is located on Great Hollow Rd., Cornwall, CT 06753.
The 30-foot-tall wood observation tower in the Shenipsit State Forest isn't as popular as some of our other Connecticut towers but is well worth checking out. Views of the Connecticut River Valley are unrivaled from this perch. The lookout is just 1/4 mile away from the parking lot found on Gulf Rd., Somers, CT 06071.
The stone tower on Haystack Mountain is the highest elevation of all the Connecticut towers. The 34-foot tall construction presents outstanding views of peaks in Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont. You can find this awe-inspiring vantage point at Route 272 North, Norfolk, CT 06058.
Climb 165 steps to the top of this 165-tower in the Talcott Mountain State Park. You'll be able to view as far as to New Hampshire in the north and down to the Long Island Sound in the south. Find the park and the tower at Route 185, Talcott Mountain State Park, Simsbury, CT.
The stone lookout tower on Mount Tom is 34 feet tall. To get there, you have to hike a moderate 1-mile tower trail that rises 500 feet in elevation. The climb is worth the views of Bear Mountain and the outskirts of New York City. The state park can be found on Route 202, Litchfield, CT 06794.
At the Southford Falls State Park, you will find a 25-foot metal observation tower on a small hill. Views are limited due to overgrowth of vegetation, but looking south and west you can still enjoy the panoramic scenery. Visit the park and tower at Route 188 and Hull's Hill Rd., Oxford, CT 06478.
Two other notable towers in the Nutmeg State are Camp Columbia State Park Tower in Morris and Mohawk Tower in Litchfield which are both not accessible to the public at this time.
