Spend The Day At This Hot Air Balloon Festival In Connecticut For A Uniquely Colorful Experience

It’s the end of August and Connecticut is coming alive with many small-town festivals and fairs that are a great way to celebrate the kids heading back to school. There is one event that is so uniquely colorful you won’t want to miss it. The Plainville Fire Company Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place August 24-26, 2018 and it is sure to be one of the most vibrant celebrations of the season.
The big and bold balloons are the main draw of the event with three different launch times set. But this festival is chock full of other family-friendly events making it the perfect weekend destination.
The hot air balloon festival is sponsored by the Plainville Fire Department and will take place at Norton Park and admission is free. Launches are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Sunday.
The public is allowed to park at Norton Park for the 6 a.m. launches on Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles will then need to be moved to an off-site parking lot where shuttle buses will bring you to the park. Off-site parking lots include Robertson Airport on Johnson Avenue and the GE Main Parking lot on Woodford Avenue. There is no fee for using the shuttle buses to get to the festival.
Make sure to bring your camera to catch the early morning lift off, the sight of these radiant balloons drifting up into the sky is like none other.
Enjoy the classic car show on Saturday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Browse local craft vendors for unique products and gifts. Live music will liven things up on both Friday and Saturday night.
Friday night you can view the balloon glow where tethered balloons are lit up to show off their array of colors.
Stay into the latter part of the evening and enjoy the spectacular fireworks show for an added dazzling display.
You'll find plenty of food vendors on sight where you can grab your festival favorites like cotton candy, burgers, fried dough, and more.
Come out and join in this free fun event to celebrate the end of summer. Whether you attend with family or friends, you'll want to keep your eyes on the sky during this festival.
