Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). It can be easy to forget just how many beautiful parks and state forests we have in Connecticut, especially if you live in one of our more populated cities. But we have an incredible 139 state parks and forests in the Nutmeg State – this is even more impressive when you consider our relatively small size! One of our favorite state forests in Connecticut is also one of our largest. Cockaponset State Forest spans an impressive 17,000 acres of protected land, and it’s unbelievably gorgeous.
The forest is a bit disjointed and made up of different parcels of land, spread out primarily in Middlesex and New Haven Counties.
There are longer, more difficult treks, in addition to easy, kid-friendly options. Of course, the longer trails don't have to be taken in their entirety, so don't be intimidated if you see signs with long distances on them!
