We’ve got a lot of beautiful churches in Connecticut. The classic white historic New England church is probably what you think of when you think of places of worship in the Nutmeg State. But we’ve got plenty of synagogues, mosques, and more here. One place you probably wouldn’t expect to see here is a Buddhist temple, but there is one! The Lao Buddha Ariyamett Aram Temple in Morris is a glorious site. This is one of the most peaceful places in Connecticut and a visit here is sure to be a unique and enlightening experience.
The gates to this beautiful temple are generally open during daylight hours.
Visitors of any faith are free to wander the grounds when the gates are open. It's a quiet place that is perfect for meditation and self introspection.
The temple is a place of worship for Laotian Buddhists. There are often festivals and other events open to the public, frequently with potluck meals held afterwards.
Laotian Buddhists from all over Connecticut come here for services. Services are not typically held in English, so while you may not want to visit for a service unless you speak Laotian, attending a festival could be a fascinating way to learn about a different culture.
The grounds of the temple are filled with beautiful and unique statues. These lovely works of art were created by one of the Buddhist monks who reside at the temple.
This is such a serene place to visit. A walk through here is extremely calming. We all can get so caught up in the stresses of everyday life that we forget to take time to relax.
Of course, if you visit the temple, be sure to be respectful of the buildings and grounds. This is an important place of worship to those of Buddhist faith.
