The castle was built by William Gillette, an American actor, who portrayed Sherlock Holmes on stage. He lived in this private residence from 1919-1937. The architecture is amazing, making you feel as though you've stepped into a fairy tale world.

The interior of the castle is equally as stunning and has secret rooms and passageways that were created by Gillette. The actor furnished the castle with unique pieces and enjoyed entertaining guests.

Gillette also loved to share his 3-mile-long narrow gauge railroad with his visitors. Guests could tour the estate on the small train.
