Are you a tried and true Coloradan who enjoys camping no matter the weather or time of year? If you answered yes, you are our kind of people and may have noticed that campgrounds are harder to come by during the cold winter months. Fortunately, we have discovered one year-round campground that may be one of the most unique in Colorado. Here’s why:
Located near Canon City, the Oil Well Flats Recreation Area consists of 12 miles of beautiful, single-track trails and jaw-dropping views of the nearby Sangre de Cristo Mountain range and is suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
In addition to the many trails and recreational opportunities, the Oil Well Flats boasts beautiful year-round camping via designated and dispersed sites along the route.
Whether you are tent, van, or RV camping, you will find your new favorite place at the Oil Well Flats, thanks to trailer parking in the second parking lot and other suggested camping sites that are pre-marked.
Please note: The recommended time to visit and camp is between May and September when temperatures are warmer and more consistent; however, it is open year-round.
