There's So Much To Do In The Virtually Unknown Colorado Town Of Kit Carson
I know that we here at Only in Colorado a tad biased but we feel that the Centennial State has the most beautiful cities and small towns in the country! While everyone knows about our bustling urban areas (a la Denver, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins), you may not have had a chance to see all of our charming small towns, like the Eastern Plains gem of Kit Carson:

Do you enjoy thrifting, antiquing, and one-of-a-kind boutiques? You can find all-of-the-above in Kit Carson, which is home to nearly a dozen locally-owned shops (Please note, the pictured shop, Singing Grass Trading Post, has permanently closed.)

Are you craving BBQ? Visit the Big Dawg BBQ food truck. How about breakfast, lunch, and dinner as good as mom used to make? Check out the equally historic and delicious Trading Post (pictured).

History buffs, rejoice, as Kit Carson is also home to a fascinating railroad museum that will give you a glimpse at life in the town's early days.

What is so important about this National Historic Site? On November 29, 1864, 700 men from the Colorado Territory militia blindsided Cheyenne and Arapaho Native Americans by ransacking their village and killing/mutilating somewhere between 70-160 men, women, and children. The event went on to change the course of Colorado history.

As an Eastern Plains native, I can say that there is nothing quite as small-town nostalgic as those Friday night lights.
