Are you looking for a quirky summertime activity that is truly out-of-this-world? While you could always climb a new 14er, discover a new waterpark, or go to Casa Bonita and pray you don’t get lost in Black Bart’s Cave, there are other even more unique things you can try, like visiting this obscure Colorado watchtower that makes for one out-of-this-world summer experience:
Located near the towns of Center and Crestone is what is arguably the quirkiest attraction in all of Colorado: the UFO Watchtower.
For decades, the area around Center has been a popular place to enjoy the night sky and look for alien activity, which is why - in 2000 - owner Judy Messoline created the watchtower as a way to capitalize on the already established area.
Open daily, the UFO Watchtower gives its guests the opportunity to peer at light pollution-free skies and decipher whether or not what they see is just a funky cloud or something more out-of-this-world.
In addition to the pristine skies, the UFO Watchtower is home to an extraterrestrial garden (pictured), a gift shop, and some of the most unique photo opportunities in the state.
Do you wish you could camp at the site to get an even better view of the sky? Your wish is granted, as the UFO Watchtower even allows camping on the premise!
