Are you new to Colorado or have plans to move here soon? Great; let me be the first to welcome you to the greatest state in America! That being said, let me also take this time to be the first to inform you of the following 12 things that all Colorado newcomers need to know:
1. The rumors are true: the cost of living in Colorado is high...
2. ...and so are your neighbors.
Though let's be fair: not everyone partakes in legal weed, and if they do, it isn't 24/7.
3. Staying on that topic, if you are only moving here for the marijuana, don't.
Look, we already have locals who overdo it with weed and think that smoking and driving is okay to do... we don't need to add to that stupidity! Speaking of bad drivers...
4. Coloradans have their own set of driving laws.
Green means go, yellow means gun it, and red means you have another 10 seconds to go before it is time to stop... It isn't that complicated, okay?!
5. Your cat is not welcome here.
Listen, we aren't trying to be mean or exclusive by saying this; we just enjoy our lives and don't want to be mauled in our sleep by these seemingly angry creatures! (I guess you can say we are moreso dog people.)
6. Colorado isn't all mountains...
Out-of-stater: I give you the Eastern Plains (Western Slope, and Front Range).
7. ...not all Coloradans are hippies...
Unless you live in Boulder, of course. (JK Boulder; we love you guys and tease you because we love you.)
8. ...and Colorado isn't always blanketed in snow.
It may surprise you to know that Colorado boasts an average 300 days of sunshine per year and that even if/when it snows, there is a good chance that you will still see the sun shine at some point that same day!
9. We stand by our men through thick and thin...
Whether it be the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, etc., we have their backs and will always cheer them on, win or lose.
10. ...and only prefer Coors when we are talking about the home of our beloved Colorado Rockies.
We aren't trying to be snotty; we just have so many local microbreweries that they are what we have become accustomed to. (However, if we had to drink a domestic, it would definitely be Coors... or Pabst.)
11. You can almost always find us outside.
Whether we are partaking in outdoor recreation (like hiking, biking, or skiing), shopping, or dining, we prefer to do it beneath one of Colorado's colorful skies!
12. Finally, if you move here and do nothing but complain about how it isn't anything like home, LEAVE.
We're looking at you, California...
