The kids may be getting ready to go back to school (whether in person, online, or via learning pods), but don’t let that deter you from getting in another summer getaway or two! If you are looking for one last hoorah that is both affordable and not too far away, check out the stuff of summertime dreams that is Salida, Colorado:
Located in colorful southcentral Colorado, Salida is a small, Chaffee County town of nearly 6,000 that is sure to be your new favorite getaway!
Translating to "exit" in Spanish, Salida was founded in 1880 after the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reached the area and was named to embody the exit to the Arkansas River canyon.
Though the town is no longer a railroad hub, it is still as vibrant as ever thanks to both its residents and businesses, beginning with the charming downtown area that boasts not only unique shops, galleries, and restaurants, but most of its original architecture.
Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Then you are guaranteed to enjoy Salida, which is surrounded by ample hiking and biking trails, 14ers, and a stretch of the Arkansas River that is perfect for both fishing and boating.
If you need to relax, you have come to the right place, as Salida is even home to three public hot springs where you can soak away all of your cares and strife.
As if Salida wasn't epic enough already, there is even a nearby zipline and adventure park, a la Captain Zipline !
