The oldest town in Colorado may be small, but it’s home to one of the most beautiful places of worship in the state. Located in San Luis is The Shrine of the Stations of the Cross, which has been a testament to love and faith for 30 years. This humble mesa church in rural Colorado may not seem like much but this religious site is all about combining the beauty of nature and spirituality.
Dedicated in 1990, the Stations of the Cross Shrine in San Luis was built by the parishioners of the local Catholic parish. For three decades, people from all across the globe have come to the small town of San Luis to celebrate their faith.
The Chapel of All Saints was constructed in the Spanish adobe style and was completed in the late 1980s. The simple chapel only accentuates the natural beauty of the area.
Local San Luis artist and sculptor, Huberto Maestas created these nearly life-size statures. Each station depicts a moment on the day of Jesus Christ's crucifixion.
Follow the path toward the chapel and stop at each station to say prayers and reflect. Here at the Station of the Cross Shrine, visitors will end at the extra 15th station: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
There are areas around the shrine where visitors can sit and consider all that they have experienced and prayed for. Even for those who are not Catholic, this shrine is a wonderful place to visit.
The Stations of the Cross Shrine in San Luis may not be well known but it's well worth the drive. For those who appreciate history, nature, or religion will certainly enjoy this holy attraction.
