Is it just me or does Colorado seem to be a mecca for small, yet picturesque towns? If you are looking to visit (or live in) a lovely town of less than 10,000, you will definitely want to check out these 10 slow-paced Colorado small towns where life is still simple:
1. Grand Lake
The poster child for quaint mountain towns is Grand Lake, which boasts a population of less than 500, ample shopping and dining opportunities, and, of course, the gorgeous lake.
2. Frederick
The town of 9,000's detailed motto says it all: "A dynamic picturesque community that offers diverse opportunities while respecting its heritage and planning for its future."
3. Estes Park
Anyone who visits the town of just under 6,000 loves it; one glimpse at its lovely main street and incredible outdoor activities and you'll understand why.
4. La Junta
Don't worry, southeast Colorado; we didn't forget about you and your 7,000 friendly neighbors in the diverse and historical La Junta!
5. Telluride
Several of you commented on our last small town's post and asked why this stunning town of 2,500 wasn't included... the answer in short is that we messed up! Telluride truly is a colorful gem in the Colorado mountainside.
6. Bennett
One of those "don't knock it until you visit it" towns is that of Bennett, which is the perfect place to live because of both its 2,500 welcoming neighbors AND close proximity to the big city.
7. Limon
An Eastern Plains town that seems to have a reputation for being "boring" is that of the Hub City and its nearly 2,000 residents. However, when you're looking to raise a family in a safe and affordable community, Limon (and its new state-of-the-art high school and thriving historical society) is truly the place to be.
8. Meeker
Not only does "the river run through" this western Colorado town of nearly 2,500; so do ample outdoor activities, a high rate in community involvement, and the lush mountainside (pictured).
9. Palisade
Imagine having 24/7 access to these out-of-the-world views AND their world famous peaches... I'll see you there! (The population of Palisade is approximately 2,700.)
10. Ouray
What the "Switzerland of America" lacks in size (less than 1,000), it makes up for with these killer views, a rich history, and even an unforgettable brewery or two.
