Now that the holiday season is coming to a close, it is time to get outside and work off some of those pesky pounds from all of those delicious and carb-o-rific seasonal treats! Our suggestion? Heading out to Victor and hiking to the deserted Skaguay Power Plant!
Opened 1901, the Skaguay Power Plant was the world’s first steel-reinformed and rock-faced dam that supplied electricity from Victor to the Canon City area. Closed in 1965 (after the nearby dam failed), the Skaguay Power Plant hike boasts 10-miles (roundtrip) of beautiful streams, trees, cliffs, and the pièce de résistance: the remains of the historic plant. Access to the out-and-back hike can be found off Hwy 81 in Victor via the Skaguay Reservoir.
