Climax. Paradox. Lay. You may think that I’m just rambling off a bunch of nonsense or obscenities, but the three words I just named are all small towns in Colorado! If you are ready for a chuckle AND to discover exciting new towns around the state, check out these seven Colorado towns that have the silliest names (but are so worth a visit!)
1. Last Chance
Located on the peaceful plains lies the tiny town of Last Chance. It's a slow-paced place and some areas have been abandoned, but it is close to hidden gems like the must-see Pawnee Buttes and Jackson Lake State Park.
2. Deer Trail
Also on the Eastern Plains (smack dab between Denver and Limon) is the small and charming Deer Trail, Colorado. This town is home to only 700 residents and is the site of the world's first rodeo.
3. Dinosaur
With a name like Dinosaur, you would expect something epic, which is exactly what this Colorado town provides! Nestled away in the northwest, Dinosaur boasts not only prehistorically-inspired street names and sculptures, but also the historic and larger than life Dinosaur National Monument.
4. No Name
Surprisingly, No Name did not receive its non-name because some government officials ran out of ideas; it was named for the nearby No Name Canyon and No Name Creek.
5. Climax
Once the highest human settlement in the United States, Climax - a former unincorporated mining village - just recently saw the re-opening of its famous mine, which processes and ships out huge deposits of molybdenum ore.
6. Hygiene
Hiding out near Longmont in Boulder County is the small, unincorporated community of Hygiene, which is home to incredible scenery, historic sites, and even a cute little shop or two!
7. Wideawake
I'll let you in on a little secret: Wideawake, Colorado is home to the iconic Wide Awake Spring, which has some of the purest water in the entire world. The water comes from an untouched ancient source that dates back over 30,000 years! (You can read MUCH more about it in our recent feature article
here .)
