Spring has sprung, the weather is warm, and the roads are clear… so you know what that means? It’s time to gas up the car and hit the road! If you are ready to take in all of Colorado’s beauty on an unforgettable drive, we recommend you take this 19-mile scenic drive ASAP.
Quite possibly one of the most iconic of Colorado routes is the 19-mile Pikes Peak Highway.
Located in the town of Cascade near Colorado Springs, the drive up "America's Mountain" is quite possibly the most scenic in the country, thanks to its windy roads...
...nearly guarantee of spotting native wildlife...
...and, of course, 360° views as far as the eye can see.
The views from 14,115 feet are even more stunning than you could possibly imagine.
In addition to the windy roads and jaw-dropping views, there are a number of other reasons to drive up Pikes Peak, including the iconic Pikes Peak Summit House (which serves up some of the best doughnuts you'll ever try - check out our feature article here to read all about them), as well as Glen Cove Inn, and Crystal Reservoir Visitor Center.
The drive up and down the summit can take anywhere from two to the hours, so make sure to set aside plenty of time to explore when planning your trip.
The Pikes Peak Highway entrance is located at 5089 Pikes Peak Highway in Cascade and the entrance feel costs $10 per adult and $5 for children (ages 6 to 12), or you can pay by the carload (of up to five passengers) for $35.
